I thought an update on the “Sierra County” ambassador effort may be in order since I just used the credit card for the first time! Hans arranged a lunch meetingWith Amerigreen organics. They are moving right along. They are on track to utilize every economic development resource our state has available including on the job training, LEDA and JTIP funds. I offered to help work some marketing and letters to the editor. We hope this will discourage opposition and will help folks understand the value the value of their products. I’ll also help their work with the school district when it’s time to implement an Apprenticeship program
Although COVID has prevented gathering in the traditional way, it has not slowed down our effort to gain and retain business. In the first months of COVID I spent time letting folks know where to apply for PPP, SBA loans and grants, as well as unemployment. I completed the applications for 5 ocal businesses. I’ve lost count of the calls to Sec. Bill McClamley at NMDWS, who is always helpful and timely on resolving issues. I’ve also found Sec Clark with Tax and Revenue to be helpful. The CEO of AppleTree accepted a new position right at the start of COVID, so a lot of my time has been volunteering there. Over 47% of child care centers in the state have closed. With the help do ECECD Sec Elizabeth Groginsky, and guidance from DOH, AppleTree has remained open for working families.
AeroVironment https://www.avinc.com/ has been developing their efforts at the Spaceport for some time. They had a NDA in place until late June, when they put out a press release describing their plans for New Mexico. Their construction efforts pretty much saved our GRT for the first and second quarter of the year. Several local contractors received contracts and employed local residence . My family has met with their team several times. Their engineers are pretty young and wanted to do outdoor activities. We accommodated them in small groups over multiple weekend. Thankfully enjoying the outdoors is free. We didn’t need the credit card.
Several other meetings have occurred with potential investors at Space Port, however they always insist on paying for the meal and it’s too early to discuss details. If you have any questions feel free to reach out.
